Kobakhidze: EU avoids dialogue with Georgia
Georgia is ready to immediately restore contacts with the European Union, but Brussels is avoiding dialogue with Tbilisi, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has said.
Speaking to local media on April 28, Kobakhidze stated that the Georgian government remains open to renewed engagement, yet sees little willingness from EU officials to resume discussions, Caliber.Az reports per Georgian media.
“As soon as we see readiness from the European bureaucracy to restart dialogue with Georgia’s authorities, we will immediately demonstrate our openness. However, for now, their attitude is different,” he said. “We observe a reluctance towards dialogue and discussion. Those with weak arguments fear dialogue.”
Kobakhidze acknowledged that the European Union is a larger political bloc than Georgia but insisted that “truth is not on their side.” He added that Tbilisi is prepared to engage with any party willing to enter into constructive talks.
“We will speak with everyone who is ready for dialogue and conversation. This has been our approach. With this attitude, we have managed to make our country successful despite significant challenges, and we intend to continue working with all those who are willing,” he said.
Relations between Georgia and the European Union have faced strains in recent months, with political differences complicating efforts to deepen cooperation.
