Kremlin: Next round of Russia–US–Ukraine talks scheduled for next week
The continuation of trilateral talks between Russia, the United States, and Ukraine is scheduled for next week, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said, though an exact date has not yet been set.
Peskov cautioned that expecting highly productive results from the upcoming discussions would be premature, noting that “there is still much work ahead,” Caliber.Az reports via Russia media.
On January 23-24, Ukrainian and Russian negotiators, joined by U.S. mediators, held their first trilateral meeting in Abu Dhabi to discuss Washington’s framework for ending the nearly four-year-old war in Ukraine. While no agreement was reached during the weekend talks, both Moscow and Kyiv signalled their willingness to continue dialogue, with further discussions expected next Sunday in Abu Dhabi, according to a U.S. official.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the talks as focused on a 20-point U.S. plan, noting that many problematic issues remain but that some progress has been made. He emphasised that Russia seeks to compel Ukraine to relinquish control over eastern regions it has failed to capture since the full-scale invasion, while Kyiv remains firm on maintaining its territorial integrity.
“These are two fundamentally different positions – Ukraine's and Russia's. The Americans are trying to find a compromise,” Zelenskyy said, stressing that all parties, including the United States, must be prepared to make concessions.
