Kyiv signals next trilateral talks with int’l mediators on February 26-27 VIDEO

23 February 2026 17:59

A new round of trilateral negotiations between Ukraine, Russia, and international mediators could be held on February 26–27 in Geneva, Kyrylo Budanov, head of the Ukrainian President’s Office, said.

He expressed hope for a prisoner exchange this week, noting that the number of detainees to be released will be “significantly higher than last time,” Caliber.Az reports.

“We are moving slowly, but we are moving. You will only see the final outcome,” Budanov added, that the talks are approaching the stage of final decision-making.

The Geneva consultations are a US-mediated trilateral diplomatic effort involving Ukraine, Russia, and the United States aimed at negotiating an end to Russia’s full‑scale invasion of Ukraine, following earlier rounds in Abu Dhabi that failed to resolve key issues such as territorial control and security guarantees.

Discussions in Geneva in mid‑February 2026 focused on both political and military tracks, tackling contentious topics like territory, energy security, and the status of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant while involving European officials in coordination efforts, though the two sides remained far apart on core demands.

The second session of talks ended abruptly after only a short period, with Ukrainian leaders accusing Russia of trying to extend negotiations without substantive concessions, underscoring how difficult progress has been despite the high stakes and international pressure.
