Landslide kills 10 in southern Philippines after heavy rain
A landslide triggered by heavy rainfall killed 10 people after burying two families in Sarangani province on the southern Philippine island of Mindanao early on Friday (July 10), local disaster authorities said.
The landslide occurred after continuous heavy rain and an intensified southwest monsoon caused the soil to collapse, according to the local disaster risk reduction and management office, Caliber.Az reports via Chinese media.
Local authorities said the ground had been weakened by a magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck the area on June 8, along with several days of persistent rainfall.
One man was rescued from the debris on Friday (July 10) morning and taken to hospital, while at least 115 families were evacuated from the area.
Search and rescue operations were continuing to ensure no additional victims remained trapped beneath the debris.
Authorities urged residents to remain alert due to the risk of further landslides.
