A powerful explosion ripped through a residential building in the city of Taiyuan—capital of China’s northern Shanxi province—on April 29, killing one person and leaving two others unaccounted for.
Authorities confirmed to local media that 21 people sustained injuries in the blast, an increase from the earlier reported figure of 17, per Caliber.Az.
Among the injured, six are in serious but stable condition, medical officials said.
The explosion occurred at approximately 13:00 local time, sending a shock wave that shattered windows in nearby buildings within a 100-meter radius. Emergency services responded quickly, setting up an on-site command centre to oversee the search-and-rescue operation and medical care.
Local government officials have begun relocating residents from the damaged building to ensure their safety while investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the detonation.
Efforts to locate the two missing individuals continue, as teams comb through the debris. The authorities have not yet ruled out any possible causes, and the area remains cordoned off as a safety precaution.
