Media: Syria to purchase Turkish tanks, drones Including air aefense systems
Syria intends to purchase weapons from Türkiye, including air defence systems, to strengthen protection against terrorists and Israel, Yeni Şafak reports.
Funding for the deal may come from a special Syria fund involving member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
Syrian authorities have requested the official sale of air defence systems, armoured vehicles, drones, and modernised artillery systems from Türkiye, rather than military aid.
The weapons are intended to bolster Syria’s defence against terrorist threats and potential Israeli actions. A priority goal is the creation of a layered air defence system covering the northern part of the country. Last week, Halik Görgün, head of Türkiye’s Defence Industry Agency, visited Damascus to discuss these matters.
Funding for the deal between Ankara and Damascus will partly come from the GCC fund, which was previously established to support Syria’s reconstruction, focusing on investments in development and the defence industry.
