Trump appoints Mark Savaya as special envoy to Iraq
U.S. President Donald Trump has announced the appointment of Mark Savaya as the new Special Envoy to the Republic of Iraq.
“I’m pleased to announce Mark Savaya will serve as Special Envoy to the Republic of Iraq,” Trump said in a post on his Truth Social on October 19.
The President praised Savaya’s “deep understanding of the Iraq–U.S. relationship” and highlighted his extensive connections across the region, saying they would help advance “the interests of the American people.”
Trump also noted Savaya’s role in his Michigan campaign, where he was credited with helping to secure record support among Muslim American voters.
“Mark was a key player in my campaign in Michigan, where he, and others, helped secure a record vote with Muslim Americans. Congratulations, Mark!” Trump wrote.
The announcement comes a week after Trump signed a peace agreement between Israel and Hamas that led to the release of the remaining living hostages and the return of some victims’ remains.
Following the signing of a landmark agreement that brought an end to two years of conflict in Gaza, U.S. President hailed what he described as “peace in the Middle East.”
“At long last, we have peace in the Middle East, and it's a very simple expression, peace in the Middle East,” Trump said during remarks in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, where he was joined by dozens of world leaders.
