Latvia destroys drone shot down over its territory

Latvia’s National Armed Forces (NBS) said on Saturday, August 15, that demolition work to neutralise a drone shot down over Latvian territory the previous day had been completed in Balvi municipality.

The NBS said the operation involved controlled detonation work to neutralise the unmanned aerial vehicle, according to Delfi.

On the night of August 14, an air-raid alert was issued across eastern parts of Latvia. Authorities later reported that a violating drone had been shot down by a fighter jet.

The NBS had initially planned to neutralise the downed drone on the evening of August 14. However, authorities said on Saturday that the operation had been carried out later than originally planned.
