In mid-May, Latvia had already faced similar precautionary airspace warnings as tensions around the Baltic region intensified. On May 20, the National Armed Forces issued alerts in several eastern border areas after radar systems detected possible aerial activity, prompting increased monitoring alongside NATO Baltic Air Policing assets.
That warning followed earlier incidents in May involving suspected drone incursions and emergency responses after unmanned aerial vehicles were detected or crashed inside Latvian territory, which led authorities to temporarily heighten readiness levels and reinforce surveillance near the eastern border.
