Latvian FM: No grounds yet for talks with Russia
Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braže said there are currently no grounds to resume direct negotiations with Russia.
She made the remarks at a joint press conference in Riga with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, stating that Russia continues to pursue its strategic objectives, including the destruction of Ukraine and creating threats to Europe, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
“Until Russia changes its actions, there is no basis for talks. At this stage, we are not holding discussions on this matter, neither within the Baltic region nor in other formats. And until Russia changes its actions—not statements, but real actions—we will see no grounds for substantive talks with it,” the minister emphasised.
She added that Europe will be ready to appoint a special negotiator when necessary. “We will be ready. But right now, it is very difficult to say what such a special envoy could even discuss,” Braže noted.
