Leading international organisations, countries refuse to recognise so-called elections in Garabagh
Leading international organisations and many countries have condemned and have refused to recognise the so-called “presidential elections” of Armenian separatists in Khankandi.
The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the Organisation of Turkic States, as well as the European Union, the Council of Europe and such countries as the UK, US, Hungary, Romania, Pakistan, Türkiye, Georgia, Ukraine, Moldova and others did not recognise the elections, according to Report.
UK Ambassador Fergus Auld noted the importance of the principles and norms of international law.
“We support Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” he said.
Such European countries as Hungary, Romania, and Moldova also made similar statements about the illegitimacy of the separatists’ actions.
EU Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Nabila Massrali added that taking into account the so-called “elections” in Khankandi, the EU once again declares that it does not recognise the constitutional and legal framework in which they were held.
The OIC called on the international community to take effective measures to prevent “destructive steps”. The representatives of the Council of Europe, the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States and other international organisations also refused to recognise the “elections”.
Iran did not directly condemn the “elections,” but while answering a question at the press conference on September 11, the spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry declared full support for Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and recognised Garabagh as an indivisible part of the country.
At the moment, the list of countries and organisations that have declared the “elections” in Khankandi illegal is as follows:
European External Action Service (EEAS)
Council of Europe
Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)
Organisation of Turkic States
Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States (TURKPA)
Türkiye
United States
United Kingdom
Ukraine
Georgia
