Lebanon files complaint with UNSC over Israeli airspace violations
Lebanon has lodged a formal complaint with the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) accusing Israeli military aviation of repeatedly violating Lebanese airspace and breaking the sound barrier over various parts of the country, including Beirut.
The complaint, submitted by Lebanon's Permanent Mission to the UNSC, was filed following directives from Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
The document condemns what Lebanon describes as "blatant violations of Lebanon's air borders and sovereignty" by Israeli aircraft. It also accuses Israel of using these incursions to "intimidate civilians," particularly targeting vulnerable populations such as children, which Lebanon argues constitutes a breach of international humanitarian law.
Israeli fighter jets have been reported to frequently enter Lebanese airspace, breaking the sound barrier and causing significant distress among local residents. In August alone, there were at least four such incidents over Beirut. The aircraft typically approach from the Mediterranean Sea or the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital, where the headquarters of the Shiite militant group Hezbollah are located.
