Israeli forces target Hezbollah militant in Tebnine operation
Israel’s military said it carried out an operation on August 25 in the southern Lebanese town of Tebnine, targeting a suspected Hezbollah militant.
The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) said the individual had been involved in efforts to rebuild military infrastructure in nearby Beit Lif, which the IDF said violated agreements between Israel and Lebanon.
“The IDF will continue to act against threats to Israeli citizens,” the statement added.
To recall, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has signalled a willingness to begin a phased withdrawal of Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) from southern Lebanon, contingent upon the Lebanese government's commitment to disarm Hezbollah by the end of 2025.
This follows a U.S.-brokered ceasefire agreement in November 2024 and recent Lebanese cabinet approval of a plan to dismantle Hezbollah's military capabilities.
The U.S. has urged Israel to comply with the disarmament plan, which includes troop withdrawal.
