Russia strikes Sumy with Shahed drones, hits residential building, gas station
On the morning of August 25, Russia launched a drone attack on the northeastern Ukrainian city of Sumy, striking both a residential building and a gas station, according to Serhii Kryvosheienko, head of the Sumy City Military Administration.
"Russia attacked Sumy with 2 drones," the report says, Caliber.Az writes per RBC-Ukraine.
One of the drones hit a residential building, causing damage to the structure and shattering windows. According to Kryvosheienko, "one of the Russian strikes was recorded in a residential building." As a result, two people sustained shrapnel wounds. They received medical attention on-site and were later hospitalized for further examination.
The second drone struck a gas station, sparking a fire. Emergency services responded swiftly and extinguished the blaze.
"A fire broke out there, which was quickly extinguished by rescuers," Kryvosheienko noted.
Preliminary reports indicate that there were no casualties in the second strike. Authorities are continuing to assess the full extent of the damage.
The drone strikes follow a series of overnight attacks on the city. Since the evening of August 24, Sumy has come under repeated assault by Russian Shahed-type strike drones. Explosions were reported throughout the city during the night.
