Zelenskyy appoints new head of SBU Special Operations Centre “A”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has appointed Yevhen Khmara as head of the Special Operations Centre A within the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), according to Decree No. 657/2025.
The move formally places Khmara in charge of one of the SBU’s key divisions, tasked with conducting special operations and implementing strategic measures to safeguard national security, Caliber.Az reports, citing Ukrainian media.
The appointment takes effect immediately upon the signing of the presidential decree.
Little is publicly known about Khmara’s professional background.
He was awarded the Order of Danylo Halytskyi by former President Petro Poroshenko in March 2019, recognising his contributions to national security, professionalism, and courage, coinciding with the SBU’s official commemorative day.
The SBU’s Centre A is responsible for a broad spectrum of operations, including counterterrorism efforts and other high-priority missions critical to Ukraine’s state security.
