Lithuania boosts protection of critical infrastructure, defence minister says

Lithuania has strengthened the protection of its critical infrastructure for an indefinite period amid concerns over potential hybrid attacks from Russia, Defence Minister Robertas Kaunas has stated.

In an interview with LRT, Kaunas said the decision was made after Lithuanian authorities received intelligence indicating that such operations could target the Baltic states, Caliber.Az reports.

"We have already completed the necessary preparations and strengthened the protection of Lithuania's critical infrastructure. The Ministry of the Interior asked the Ministry of National Defence to reinforce it, both in terms of equipment and personnel," Kaunas noted.

Bridges, electricity substations, gas distribution systems and communications hubs have been placed under enhanced security.

The country's Public Security Service has been tasked with protecting key facilities, while the Lithuanian Armed Forces will assist if necessary.
