Lithuania focuses on single defence strategy, rules out “Plan B or C” scenarios
Lithuanian authorities are concentrating on a unified national defence strategy and are not currently considering alternative formalised contingency plans, according to an adviser to the president Deividas Matulionis.
Matulionis said that the country’s leadership is focused on strengthening a single defence planning scenario rather than developing multiple parallel plans, Caliber.Az reports via LRT.
He noted that opposition suggestions to prepare “Plan B and C” options within the State Defence Council could only be discussed in the broader context of general preparedness for deteriorating security conditions, but said there are currently no plans to formalise such alternatives.
Matulionis said that Lithuanian defence policy remains centred on one primary strategic framework, stating that authorities are not ready at this stage to put alternative plans on paper.
He also addressed concerns over potential delays in US arms deliveries amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, saying Lithuania is not experiencing significant disruptions and continues to implement long-term defence objectives, including plans to establish a national division by 2030.
While acknowledging that the United States may temporarily adjust its supply priorities due to its own security needs, he said such shifts should not materially affect Lithuania’s defence planning.
