Lukashenko checks state of Minsk services as weather conditions deteriorate

29 January 2026 17:08

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has requested an update from city officials on the current situation in the capital amid deteriorating weather conditions.

The leader was briefed by Minsk Mayor Vladimir Kukharev on the state of city services and infrastructure, Caliber.Az reports citing Belarusian news outlets.

During the meeting, Lukashenko expressed that his main concern was the situation in Minsk and asked Kukharev to report on conditions in the city “objectively and honestly.”

“What concerns me most are the problems. I want to say frankly that I don’t see any major problems in Minsk. But that’s my view. You, as the head of our city, the capital, are constantly in the thick of things and know more than I do,” the president said.

Lukashenko also held a meeting with the country's Agriculture and Food Minister, Yuri Gorlov, to be informed on the state of essential food production and the preservation of livestock.

The president noted that the winter had become a tough test for the agricultural sector, stating that “the Lord has tested us seriously."

The president also inquired about the progress of restoring district-level agricultural and service organisations, which are meant to assist local authorities in their work on the ground.
