Lukashenko warns of rising threats near Belarus borders
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has warned of increasing geopolitical tensions and emerging threats near the country’s borders, citing a deteriorating regional security environment.
Speaking while reviewing the results of a comprehensive inspection of Belarus’s armed forces, Lukashenko said the scale and urgency of military tasks reflect the seriousness of current developments. “The level of tasks, the pace of their assignment and execution — all of this is determined by the seriousness of the geopolitical situation, the worsening developments and threats that are forming in close proximity to our borders. And not only our borders,” he said, according to BelTA.
Lukashenko also emphasised his extensive контакts with international leaders, saying his long-standing experience allows him to assess global dynamics and unfolding events.
“I am an informed person. You know that we are holding talks with the Americans. And my life and professional experience, including military service, help me draw appropriate conclusions from smiles, hugs, kisses and other gestures with the Americans, all the way to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. I am not even mentioning China and Russia. I have long-standing relations with the leadership (of these countries) and not only with the leadership,” he said.
He suggested that his direct interactions with leaders across a broad geopolitical spectrum inform his understanding of the current international situation.
