Macron, Erdoğan discuss Lebanon ceasefire
French President Emmanuel Macron has held talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, during which both leaders discussed the situation in the Middle East, Ukraine and the South Caucasus, according to Macron’s statement published on social media platform X.
Macron said that he and Erdoğan discussed the need to ensure the ceasefire in Lebanon is respected and enforced, as well as the importance of maintaining freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. He noted that both leaders underlined the need for a reliable and long-term diplomatic solution to tensions in the region, Caliber.Az reports.

The French president added that their discussion also covered the situation in Ukraine and the two countries’ cooperation within the “Coalition of the Willing,” aimed at promoting a just and lasting peace. Macron said that any peace must be in line with the principles of the United Nations Charter and supported by strong security guarantees for Ukraine.
Macron also referred to the upcoming European Political Community Summit, scheduled to take place in Yerevan on May 4 next year, reiterating France’s support for the peace process in the South Caucasus. He said the goal is to help the region open a new chapter with open borders and stronger security.
Macron said that he and Erdoğan also agreed on the need to deepen bilateral dialogue and cooperation between France and Türkiye.
