Magnitude 6.3 earthquake strikes near Sulawesi, Indonesia
A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 shook the Tomini Bay area in central Indonesia early on July 24, authorities confirmed.
The tremor occurred at 04:41 local time, approximately 110 kilometres west of Gorontalo city on Sulawesi Island. According to the Altai-Sayan branch of Russia’s Unified Geophysical Service, the epicentre was located about 6 kilometres off the coast of Sulawesi, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
The quake’s intensity at the epicentre has been classified as “destructive,” raising concerns about possible damage and casualties in nearby communities.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) also reported a magnitude of 6.3, estimating the earthquake’s focus at a depth of nearly 145 kilometres beneath the Earth’s surface.
