Man detained after attempting to set fire to Israeli embassy in The Hague
Dutch police have detained a man who tried to break into the Israeli embassy in The Hague and set it on fire.
Israeli media reports that no embassy staff were injured in the incident. Authorities have not yet disclosed the identity of the suspect, and the motives behind his actions remain unclear. Investigations are ongoing as more information becomes available.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry confirmed the arrest, noting that the individual attempted to set the embassy ablaze. Israel’s ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, condemned the attack, describing it as a “disgusting attempt” and asserting that “hate and violence will not stop us — the Israeli flag will continue to fly proudly around the world.”
This arrest comes amid heightened tensions in Europe. Belgian authorities recently detained a suspect carrying a Molotov cocktail near the Israeli embassy in Brussels. No one was injured, but the incident was treated as a prevented attack. The arrest occurred four days after Belgium announced plans to recognise Palestine at the UN General Assembly.
Separately, the German prosecutor’s office has charged Russian national Ahmad E. with planning a terrorist attack on the Israeli embassy in Berlin and intending to join the Islamic State group. He faces charges for preparing a violent act that threatened national security.
In addition, Dutch media reported that three individuals carried out an act of vandalism at the Israeli embassy in The Hague. The reasons for that attack have not yet been clarified.
