Maritime attack in Taganrog Bay kills crew member, damages vessels
Four vessels of various types were attacked in Russia’s Taganrog Bay, leaving one person dead and causing damage to multiple ships, regional authorities said, according to ASTRA.
The casualty was a crew member aboard a technical vessel, Rostov region Governor Yuri Slyusar said.
“Overall, four vessels of various types were attacked in the Taganrog Bay, one of them a tanker carrying methanol. There is no threat of a spill or leakage of the substance. The vessels sustained minor damage. During the repelling of the air attack, more than a dozen UAVs were destroyed. The city of Taganrog, as well as the Azovsky and Neklinovsky districts, came under attack,” Slyusar said.
The reported attack comes amid escalating maritime strikes in the broader region. A day earlier, Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) said it had struck 13 vessels belonging to Russia’s so-called “shadow fleet” in the Sea of Azov.
According to the SBU, the July 10 operation targeted “10 tankers, 1 dry cargo ship, 1 ferry and 1 sea tug.”
