Mass riots in Munich: Hundreds of Bayern and Stuttgart fans detained
Mass clashes broke out in Munich ahead of a Bundesliga match between Bayern Munich and VfB Stuttgart, resulting in the detention of more than 500 people.
The incident occurred on April 19 in the afternoon in a parking area near the Allianz Arena before the match, which ended in a 4-2 victory for Bayern Munich, Caliber.Az reports per German media.
Police said around 1,000 people were involved in the unrest, and the violence may have been pre-planned.
Suspicion of coordinated clashes increased after authorities confiscated dozens of caps, gloves, and more than a hundred scarves allegedly used to conceal identities.
According to police, around 500 Stuttgart ultras suddenly changed their route and encountered a similarly sized group of Bayern supporters, after which mass disorder erupted. Police used batons and pepper spray to disperse the crowds.
Eight police officers were injured in the clashes. Most of those detained were Stuttgart supporters. They were later released, but an investigation has been launched into public disorder and attacks on law enforcement officers.
