Media: Arab nations, PA demand changes to Trump Gaza plan
Several Arab nations and the Palestinian Authority (PA) have submitted requests for modifications to US President Donald Trump’s upcoming Gaza peace plan, which is scheduled to be presented to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on September 29, according to a report by Israeli media.
The proposed changes include softer language regarding Hamas’s disarmament. Instead of stating that Hamas will be disarmed, the revised wording would indicate that Hamas will be asked to hand over its weapons, Caliber.Az reports per Israeli media.
Additionally, the parties involved are reportedly calling for the post-conflict governing body in Gaza to have a clearer alignment with the Palestinian Authority.
Another significant amendment, reportedly initiated by Hamas, involves the deployment of any international peacekeeping forces. The proposal suggests these forces be stationed along the Gaza-Israel border rather than inside Gaza itself.
Representatives of the Palestinian Authority have also expressed concerns about maintaining the PA’s status, requesting that the formation of a new Gaza administration does not diminish its role. Both the PA and Qatar have voiced opposition to former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair taking a senior role in overseeing the implementation of the plan.
The report indicates that despite official denials, Hamas has reportedly received a copy of Trump’s plan but intends to respond only after the US president’s meeting with Netanyahu.
