Media: EU fears US may pursue Russia talks without European involvement
European Union countries are concerned that U.S. President Donald Trump could move forward with negotiations with Russia without the participation of European allies, according to Politico.
The report says the concerns have been heightened by recent communications between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, including a phone call on June 14 that reportedly lasted nearly an hour.
European unease has also increased following comments from Putin’s presidential aide Yury Ushakov, who said that Trump’s appointed envoys on Ukraine, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, are expected to travel to Moscow in the near future.
According to Politico, European officials are closely monitoring the growing contacts between Washington and Moscow amid broader discussions on security issues and potential pathways to resolving the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
