Media: Europe seeks Trump backing for Russia-Ukraine peace talks at G7
European leaders are expected to seek US President Donald Trump’s support for launching peace talks on Ukraine involving representatives of Moscow, Kyiv, Brussels, and Washington, Bloomberg reports, citing sources.
The discussions are expected to take place during the upcoming Group of Seven (G7) summit, where European countries aim to secure backing from the US president for their proposal.
UK, France and Germany assess that the balance of the war has tilted in Ukraine’s favour, opening a window for talks that go beyond the framework shaped after Donald Trump’s summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska last year, the people said, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss private deliberations.
According to the report, European leaders believe such negotiations could potentially take place as early as July this year.
