Media: Legal experts outline options for easing US sanctions on Russia
American legal experts have reportedly devised several frameworks for potentially lifting sanctions on Russia, following Moscow’s commitment to finalize a $12 trillion agreement with the United States.
According to a report by The Economist, the information comes from Patrick Lord, CEO at The Risk Advisory Group. Lord noted that US lawyers had been actively examining the issue since last summer.
The potential easing of anti-Russian sanctions was discussed in the context of US President Donald Trump exerting pressure on Ukraine to initiate peace talks. “A significant portion of the preparatory work has already been completed,” the report states.
In March 2025, Vladimir Putin commented on the growing complexity of sanctions imposed on Russia, saying that those responsible “appear to have lost count” due to the sheer number. According to the Russian Finance Ministry, a total of 28,595 sanctions currently target Russian individuals and legal entities — a figure that, in Putin’s words, vastly exceeds the total restrictions imposed on all other countries combined.
