Media: Nearly 100 US service members injured in Iranian strikes this month

Nearly 100 US service members have been injured in multiple Iranian airstrikes on American military bases across the Middle East this month, according to US officials cited by CBS News.

Pentagon chief spokesperson Sean Parnell confirmed that almost 100 personnel “were deemed to have some degree of injury since July 7, 2026,” adding that 96% had since returned to duty.

“They are determined to get back in the fight. The vast majority of injuries experienced were minor concussions,” Parnell said.

The injuries come amid a sharp escalation in hostilities between the United States and Iran, as a months-long ceasefire between the two countries continues to break down. The US military has carried out nightly strikes on Iranian targets for more than a week, saying the operations are aimed at preventing Iran from attacking commercial vessels.

Iran, in turn, has launched strikes against US assets in Jordan, Kuwait, Bahrain and other countries allied with Washington.

The US Defence Department said over the weekend that two American soldiers had been killed at a military base in Jordan. Unidentified remains were also found at the site where a third US service member had gone missing.

Another US service member was killed in Iraq during a “controlled detonation of unexploded ordnance from a downed Iranian one-way attack drone.”

US President Donald Trump has vowed to retaliate for the deaths in Jordan and Iraq. In a Monday post on Truth Social, he wrote: “Every time Iran kills an American Soldier they will pay for that killing many times over!”

Trump said he had issued the directive to Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine and other senior military leaders.
