Media: North Korea continues fortifying border with South Korea

08 August 2024 13:58

The South Korean National Defence Ministry has announced in its parliamentary report that North Korea continues fortifying border with South Korea by installing mines and building fortifications in the demilitarized zone.

The work, which began in April, is progressing despite heavy rains and incidents involving mine explosions, Caliber.Az reports citing the Russian media.

The South Korean National Defence Ministry reported on July 17 that during these operations, North Korean military personnel experienced casualties due to ten mine explosion incidents and heat strokes. Earlier Seoul’s sources stressed that North Korea is likely constructing anti-tank barriers.

South Korean military estimates indicate that North Korea has conducted a total of 37 ballistic missile launches during eight tests and 11 cruise missile launches during six tests so far this year. In contrast, the Armed Forces of South Korea conducted ten major exercises with the US in the first half of 2024, double the number compared to the same period in 2023.
