Media: Russia bolsters military presence in northeastern Syria
Russian forces are significantly increasing their military presence in northeastern Syria, local sources report.
According to Syria TV, local sources in the city of Qamishli have confirmed that these movements are not limited to routine military patrols, but also involve significant changes at the Russian base at Qamishli Airport, including new equipment, expansion of the headquarters, and additional housing for military personnel.
The patrols have been accompanied by flights of Russian helicopters over the region, which is a clear sign of Moscow strengthening its military presence in northeastern Syria.
A local source familiar with the situation at Qamishli Airport told Syria TV that the Russians have not only increased their troop numbers at the base but have also deployed helicopters and radars, as well as installed air defence systems.
He added that “in recent days, military transport aircraft from the Khmeimim airbase have repeatedly arrived to deliver ammunition and supplies.”
The source continued: “This is not just a routine deployment, but a full military regrouping, reflecting Moscow’s desire to reassert its role as a major player in northeastern Syria.”
