Media: Syrian airspace may come under Turkish control
Türkiye’s increasing role in Syria could significantly impact Israel’s strategic position in the region, particularly in terms of its military operations.
The publication highlights that PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s recent call to dissolve the organization could shift the balance of power in favor of Türkiye, Caliber.Az reports, citing Haaretz.
If Ankara further consolidates its influence and the United States withdraws from Syria, the YPG, the Syrian branch of the PKK, may have no choice but to negotiate with Damascus.
For years, Israel has carried out military operations in Syria, using the country’s airspace with Russian coordination.
However, Haaretz notes that if Türkiye gains control over Syrian skies, Israel’s ability to conduct strikes, particularly against Iranian and Hezbollah targets, could be severely restricted.
The report emphasizes that Türkiye’s growing regional role is isolating Israel while simultaneously boosting Ankara’s international standing. Türkiye is increasingly seen as a key player in regional diplomacy and is gaining credibility within the European Union.
Summarizing the evolving situation, Haaretz states: “While Israel seeks short-term tactical advantages, Türkiye is pursuing long-term strategic gains.”
