Media: Two Hamas generals killed in Israeli airstrike in Southern Gaza
A night airstrike in the "safe zone" of Al-Mawasi, located on the western outskirts of Khan Yunis in southern Gaza, has reportedly resulted in the death of Major General Mahmoud Salah, the police chief of Hamas.
According to Palestinian media, Salah and his assistant, Hussam Mustafa Shawan, were killed in the attack, which targeted displacement tents in the so-called "safe zone", Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign meida outlets.
The airstrike, carried out by Israeli fighter jets, has also resulted in the deaths of at least 11 people, with 15 others wounded. While Hamas-controlled news outlet "Palestine Info" confirmed Salah’s death, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have yet to officially confirm the killing of the Hamas police chief.
Palestinian sources continue to report casualties from the strike, which is part of ongoing military operations in Gaza. Hamas militants are known to operate from densely populated civilian areas, further complicating efforts to distinguish between military and civilian targets. The use of "safe zones" and civilian infrastructure by Hamas fighters has drawn sharp criticism as it often puts the Palestinian population at risk.
The Israeli military has not yet commented on the specifics of the airstrike, but such attacks are part of a broader strategy aimed at targeting Hamas leaders and militants within the Gaza Strip.
