Media: US president's medal of freedom awards spark outrage

US President Biden's decision to award the Presidential Medal of Freedom to individuals like Hillary Clinton and George Soros has drawn significant criticism.

The award given to Soros, in particular, has sparked outrage due to his long-standing influence on American politics and the justice system, Caliber.Az reports citing foreign media.

His long history of influencing US politics and the justice system, especially through funding prosecutors like Alvin Bragg in Manhattan, has contributed to policies that critics argue have exacerbated crime and disorder in cities like New York. Bragg’s lenient stance on crime has made some urban areas feel unsafe, with incidents like violent subway stabbings serving as stark examples of the repercussions.

Soros’s philosophy, as it pertains to the justice system, is often viewed as promoting a soft-on-crime approach, where many laws go unenforced, and criminals are given second chances rather than facing incarceration. Furthermore, his financial support of movements, including anti-Israel protests, has fostered further division in the nation. Despite this, Biden has awarded Soros one of the highest civilian honors, a move that many see as contradictory to efforts aimed at addressing the growing problems within American cities.

In stark contrast, figures like Daniel Penny, who intervened heroically in a dangerous subway situation, have not been afforded similar recognition, even though many believe they embody the ideals that such awards were originally meant to honor. Meanwhile, other high-profile figures, like soccer star Lionel Messi, declined to participate in the ceremony, likely choosing not to lend their image to a president whose approval ratings are among the lowest in recent history.

Biden’s actions in his final months are tarnishing the prestige of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, diminishing its value in the eyes of many Americans.
