Meeting between EU-US top diplomats gets cancelled
The scheduled meeting between EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington has been cancelled.
The news of the meetings cancellation was published by Western media, citing a senior EU official’s statement to reporters in Brussels, Caliber.Az reports.
"The foreign policy chief will not meet with Secretary of State Marco Rubio this time due to scheduling issues," the official said of the meeting, originally planned for February 26-27.
However, according to Euronews, Kallas will still meet with US senators and congress members to discuss the Ukraine conflict and transatlantic relations.
"She will also meet with staff from the EU delegation in the US and participate in a public event at the Hudson Institute," the official added.
On February 24, during a press conference in Brussels, Kallas had initially announced her planned visit to the US, including a meeting with Rubio with the expectation discuss Donald Trump's push to launch bilateral negotiations with Russia and Ukraine, which has irritated European Union officials as it sidelined the bloc.
