Trump on resolving conflicts: "One of wars lasted 32 years"
US President Donald Trump, in an interview with GB News highlighted his record in swiftly resolving long-standing conflicts, noting that some wars lasting decades had been settled in just a matter of days.
“Some of the wars were going on, in one case 32 years, in one case 36 years, and I got them settled in like two days. I’m very proud of that,” Trump said.
Trump contrasted these achievements with the ongoing war in Ukraine, which he described as a “terrible bloodbath,” emphasising the unprecedented scale of losses since the Second World War.
“There are so many soldiers. Not since the Second World War has anything been like that,” he said, underlining the human cost of the conflict.
Trump criticised the war for starting and expressed hope for a resolution, noting that economic pressures on Moscow were mounting.
“We’re putting a lot of pressure on them… as Russia sells oil, they have money to do things. But I think we’re going to get it done,” he said, without specifying a timeline.
Trump also referenced tensions between nuclear-armed neighbours India and Pakistan, highlighting his use of tariffs and trade leverage to prevent escalation.
“If you’re going to go and fight, I’m not going to make any trade deals with you guys. And I put tariffs and did all sorts of things. And within 48 hours, I got that taken care of,” he said, presenting it as an example of his broader diplomatic approach.
