Malaysia confirms toll-free passage for ships through Strait of Hormuz
Several Malaysian vessels have transited the strategic Strait of Hormuz without paying any fees to Iran, the government confirmed, Reuters reports.
Addressing circulating misconceptions online, Fahmi Fadzil, Malaysia’s communications minister, emphasized during a press briefing, “We will not pay for passage, as some online users might think. We pay nothing.”
A government spokesperson added that the ships have been granted toll-free passage through the vital waterway, underscoring Malaysia’s commitment to free and open maritime navigation.
The clarification comes amid confusion among netizens regarding Malaysia’s maritime operations in the region, ensuring transparency on the country’s approach to international shipping through one of the world’s most important oil transit chokepoints.
