British PM rejects pressure to change stance on Iran conflict
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer affirmed that he will not change his stance regarding the conflict in Iran, responding to growing pressure and recent remarks from US President Donald Trump, Clash Report.
During a press conference, Starmer addressed a question about a recent threat from Trump that the US would no longer come to the aid of the UK, BBC reports.
“There’s been a good deal of pressure on me to change my position in relation to joining the [Iran] war, and I’m not going to change my position on the war,” Starmer said. “Whatever the pressure, whatever the noise, I am the British prime minister and I have to act in our national interests.”
The prime minister stressed that his decisions are guided solely by the UK’s national interest, despite external pressures and international uncertainties.
He also reiterated the importance of strengthening the UK’s cooperation with the European Union in defence, security, energy, and economic matters.
