Syria detains former Assad-era intel officer over alleged abuses
Syrian Interior Ministry officers have detained Mahmoud Ibrahim Khaddur, a former intelligence operative linked to the Assad-era security apparatus, according to an official statement from the ministry’s press service.
Khaddur previously served in the Military Security Branch No. 290 in Aleppo before later being stationed at the Salamiyah–Hama checkpoint. Investigators allege that during his time at the checkpoint, he participated in theft and carried out attacks against civilians passing through the area.
The operation to detain Khaddur was initiated after local residents filed complaints and provided video evidence documenting the alleged abuses. Following his arrest, he was transferred to the Counterterrorism Directorate, where further investigative procedures are underway.
In a separate development a day earlier, Syrian law enforcement authorities arrested Suleiman Deyob, a former air force officer.
