Lukashenko: Belarus among Europe’s cheapest countries for electricity
Belarus is among the top three European countries with the lowest electricity prices, President Alexander Lukashenko stated during a meeting on the performance of the Belarusian nuclear power plant (BelNPP), increased electricity consumption, and proposals for new nuclear capacity.
“Hundred per cent of our population has access to electricity. At the same time, in the ranking of European countries, Belarus ranks 3rd in terms of the lowest electricity prices. According to a ranking published in June 2025, the lowest electricity costs are in Kazakhstan, Russia, and Belarus,” Lukashenko said.
He highlighted that using electricity for heating, hot water, and the construction of electrically heated homes is improving living comfort for hundreds of thousands of people. Between 2021 and 2025, more than 2 million square meters of such housing have been built. Residents of private homes are also switching to electric heating, with over 160,000 applications submitted last year.
“We need to build comfortable housing for people, with electric heating. This is truly a miracle for a person,” the Belarusian leader emphasised.
The country is also developing electric transport, not only in major cities.
“Pilot projects to convert public transport to electric have been implemented in Zhodino, Novopolotsk, and Shklov. Overall, more than 44,000 electric vehicles are currently in operation across the country, with over 1,870 charging stations,” Lukashenko added.
