Trump eyes Saudi Arabia joining Abraham Accords in upcoming talks
US President Donald Trump has announced that he plans to discuss with Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince the possibility of the kingdom joining the Abraham Accords, signalling a potential major shift in Middle East diplomacy.
According to Israeli media, speaking to journalists aboard Air Force One during a flight from Washington to Florida, Trump said the decisive conversation with the Saudi leader is scheduled for next week.
“I intend to discuss very soon with the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia the issue of his country joining the Abraham Accords,” he stated.
The discussion will also touch upon the potential supply of F-35 fighter jets to Saudi Arabia. Trump noted that the matter is “under consideration,” though he did not directly link it to the Abraham Accords talks.
Trump has expressed optimism about Saudi Arabia joining the Accords previously. In an October interview with Fox Business Network, he said: “I think soon. I don’t want to use the word ‘immediately.’ I hope Saudi Arabia joins, and I hope others join as well. I think if Saudi Arabia joins, everyone will join.”
Responding to a question about Saudi Arabia’s readiness to join the agreements, Trump confirmed: “Yes. Even yesterday, I had good negotiations. They couldn’t do it during the war in the Gaza Strip. They couldn’t do it while fighting was ongoing, and Iran was a real force in the region. Now, that opportunity has arisen.”
