Mohamed al-Bashir appointed caretaker Syrian PM for transitional government
Mohamed al-Bashir has been appointed caretaker prime minister of the transitional Syrian government until March 1, 2025, he said in a televised statement on December 10.
Al-Bashir ran the rebel-led Salvation Government before the 12-day lightning offensive swept into Damascus, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Notably, former Syrian Prime Minister Mohammed Al-Jalali, who served under al-Assad, has agreed to transfer power to Hayat Tahrir al-Sham’s (HTS) Syrian Salvation Government (SSG).
On December 9, Bashir met with HTS leader Abu Mohammed al Jolani and former Assad Regime Prime Minister Mohammed Al-Jalali to discuss the process of transferring power from the Assad regime to HTS. Jalali emphasized the importance of preserving government institutions and efforts to reintegrate around 400,000 public employees into their roles.
