Moldova reports drone explosion after airspace breach
A drone entered Moldova’s airspace overnight on June 8 and later appeared to have exploded at the site of its crash, the country’s Defence Ministry has stated.
The ministry said surveillance systems of the National Army and cross-border cooperation mechanisms detected a UAV crossing the state border at 00:20 from the direction of the settlement of Mikhailovka-Lopatna, Caliber.Az reports.
Fragments of the drone were later discovered on agricultural land near the village of Lopatna following an intervention by specialised Interior Ministry units.
Evidence at the scene indicates that an explosion had previously occurred.
The recovered debris is being examined to determine the origin of the drone and the circumstances of the incident.
The ministry noted that a large-scale Russian drone and missile attack on Ukraine took place during the same night.
Relevant authorities are continuing to document the case and monitor the situation.
