Mongolian president welcomes Russian counterpart for official visit

03 September 2024 13:01

Russian President Vladimir Putin has invited Mongolian President Ukhnaa Khurelsukh to participate in the BRICS summit scheduled to take place in Kazan this October.

"I would like to invite you to Kazan, Russia, where we will host the BRICS summit this year. This will be the first event of such a level following the expansion of the organisation. I hope you will join us in the BRICS+ format. We look forward to seeing you," Putin said during the talks with the Mongolian leader in Ulaanbaatar, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

The Russian leader also suggested discussing cooperation between Russia and Mongolia in various areas, particularly in the economic sector. President Putin is currently in Mongolia on an official visit. The president of Mongolia, extended the invitation to the Russian leader during their talks in Beijing in October 2023.

The last visit by a Russian president to Mongolia was in 2019, when Putin attended events commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Khalkhin Gol.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev has said that judges and prosecutors of the International Criminal Court (ICC) should be wary if anyone attempts to execute their arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Medvedev made this statement on his Telegram channel while commenting on the EU's "concern" over the Russian leader's visit to Mongolia, a member state of the ICC. "The Mongols disrespect the ICC and the Euro-degenerates. If I were one of the judges or prosecutors of this so-called 'court,' I would be most afraid that some madman might attempt to execute their illegal warrant. In that case, their lives would be worth no more than that worthless piece of paper," Medvedev wrote.
