Moscow, Baghdad advocate return to diplomacy over Iran situation
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov held a telephone call on March 3 with Iraq’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein to discuss regional developments.
According to a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, the two diplomats reviewed the evolving situation around Iran. Both sides underscored the urgency of halting hostilities as soon as possible and steering the crisis back toward a political and diplomatic resolution.
Lavrov and Hussein also called on all parties involved in the conflict to refrain from striking civilian infrastructure in order to avoid civilian casualties.
In addition to the regional security situation, the ministers addressed other pressing matters on the bilateral agenda.
