Moscow condemns Israel's large-scale attacks on Lebanon
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova has said that Moscow strongly opposes the large-scale military actions carried out by Israel against Lebanon.
“We strongly condemn the large-scale military attacks being carried out against Lebanon. We would especially like to emphasize our principled position on the categorical inadmissibility of indiscriminate attacks, the victims of which are civilians,” the diplomat stressed, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
Russia calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities in the Middle East, Zakharova added.
The diplomat emphasized that the sharp aggravation of the situation in Lebanon is of deep concern. “On September 23, the Israeli leadership announced the start of an IDF offensive operation, dubbed 'Arrows of the North', with the stated aim of undermining the military infrastructure of the Hezbollah movement.”
"The Israeli Air Force launched massive airstrikes across Lebanon. Dozens of population centres in the south and east of the country were attacked. Hezbollah, in turn, intensified rocket attacks on military facilities in Israel,” she added.
On September 24, Israeli air raids hitting mostly southern and eastern Lebanon killed at least 558 people and wounded at least 1,835, according to the country’s health ministry, in the deadliest day of conflict in Lebanon since its 1975-90 civil war. Among the dead, at least 50 children and 94 women.
