Moscow affirms readiness to support Cuba on lifting US blockade

15 May 2026 13:55

A meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla took place on the sidelines of the BRICS foreign ministers’ session in New Delhi, where Moscow reaffirmed its readiness to support Havana in its efforts to have the US embargo lifted.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said the two sides held talks in a friendly and constructive atmosphere, reviewing bilateral issues as well as regional and international developments, Caliber.Az reports.

The ministry noted that both countries reiterated their position that unilateral sanctions imposed outside the framework of the UN Charter are unacceptable.

Russia also expressed readiness to assist Cuba in advancing what it called its “just demand” for the immediate end of the US trade, economic and financial blockade, as well as the removal of Cuba from the US list of “state sponsors of terrorism.”

The statement said amid what it described as an “unprecedented escalation of the situation,” Moscow confirmed its willingness to provide Cuba with political, diplomatic, and material support.
