An unprecedented situation occurred in a prison in Huntsville, Texas. There, 39-year-old Ramiro Gonzales is awaiting the death penalty for the murder of 18-year-old Bridget Townsend. The young woman was married to a local drug dealer at the time of the murder. The inmate later explained that he had murdered her because she had witnessed the theft.

The convict wants a postponement of the death penalty so that he can become an organ donor.

The execution is scheduled for July 13. However, two weeks before its execution, Gonzales' lawyers Thea Posel and Raoul Schonemann sent a motion to Texas governor Greg Abbott to postpone the death penalty by one month. As they argued, this postponement is to enable the convict to become a donor "for someone who urgently needs a kidney transplant."

The document also contained an opinion issued by the Jewish clergyman Michael Zoosman, who was in contact with the inmate.

“I have no doubt that Ramiro's desire to become an altruistic kidney donor is not a last-minute attempt to stop or delay an execution. I believe that this is something Ramiro wants to do to help his soul reconcile with God, said the priest.
