Musk pushes for Mars mission with Trump's support
Elon Musk, after advising on President Trump’s re-election campaign, has set his sights on advancing humanity's ambitions to reach Mars.
In a call late last year, Musk encouraged entrepreneur Jared Isaacman to head NASA, aiming to refocus the agency's efforts towards Mars exploration, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Trump soon announced Isaacman’s appointment.
With Musk’s influence over federal budgets and agencies, including NASA, SpaceX, and the Federal Aviation Administration, he has begun steering resources towards Mars-related projects, reducing NASA’s focus on the moon.
This shift is evident in SpaceX’s internal priorities, where Mars-related work now takes precedence over the Artemis programme, NASA’s moon mission.
Musk, who has long championed Mars colonisation, has discussed reallocating NASA’s resources and potentially abandoning costly moon missions to fund Mars ventures. The goal: a self-sustaining civilisation on Mars. Musk’s push aligns with Trump’s vision for a second term, which includes launching Americans to the Red Planet, marking a new era in space exploration.
Musk’s vision of making life multi-planetary is gaining momentum, though the technical and financial challenges remain immense. Still, with Trump’s backing and Musk’s leadership, the Mars mission could soon become a key part of America’s space agenda.
