Musk questions congresswoman Pelosi's wealth amid controversial pro-Armenian stance

14 February 2025 13:20

The White House administration is reportedly continuing to address perceived issues inherited from the previous Democratic leadership, with a recent focus now shifting to California Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi.

Pelosi, a long-time and outspoken advocate for Armenian causes, is under scrutiny following the retweet of a provocative question by the US Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Caliber.Az reports.

The retweet, which garnered significant attention, posed the question: "Nancy Pelosi's annual salary is $174,000. Her estimated net worth is $240 million. Should DOGE investigate?" The post prompted debate over Pelosi's considerable wealth, which appears disproportionate to her government salary.

Pelosi, who has been a prominent figure in American politics for decades, is well-known for her strong pro-Armenian stance. This has drawn particular ire in Azerbaijan, which has raised questions about her financial dealings, especially regarding her visits to Armenia and Taiwan.

In 2022, Pelosi’s trip to Yerevan became the subject of controversy, with member of Russian State Duma Alexey Zhuravlev claiming that the visit cost Armenian taxpayers $120 million. Zhuravlev alleged that Armenian lobbyists in Washington funnelled $75 million from the Armenian treasury to the Democratic Party, $50 million of which was a one-time donation to the party, while $25 million reportedly covered the costs of Pelosi's visit, including flight arrangements and security measures.

The speculation surrounding Pelosi’s wealth has further fueled political controversy. During a rally in Michigan last year, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump remarked on Pelosi’s character, saying: "She's a crooked person. She's a bad person, evil. She's an evil, sick, crazy...Oh no. It starts with a B– but I won't say it. I want to say it. I want to say it."
